Prevent kidney failure

There are several ways to prevent kidney failure or slow its progression:

1. Maintain a healthy diet: Eat a diet that is low in salt, sugar, and fat. Focus on fresh fruits and vegetables, lean protein sources, and whole grains.

2. Stay hydrated: Drinking enough water is important for kidney health. Aim for at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day.

3. Manage underlying conditions: Keep your blood pressure and blood sugar levels under control to prevent damage to the kidneys.

4. Exercise regularly: Regular exercise can help maintain a healthy weight, keep blood pressure under control, and improve overall health.

5. Don't smoke: Smoking can increase the risk of kidney damage.

6. Limit alcohol consumption: Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol can cause liver damage, which, in turn, can lead to kidney problems.

7. Take medications as prescribed: If you have been prescribed medications to control an underlying condition, take them exactly as directed by your doctor.

8. Get regular check-ups: Regular check-ups with your doctor can help catch any kidney problems early.
