From the Streets to the Mats: My Journey with Shogun Fight Gym
In 2013, I started Shogun Fight Gym with one mission in mind: to help at-risk youth break free from the cycle of negativity through the power of sports and discipline. What began with just a few eager teens in Yishun has now grown into a movement that’s transformed lives across Singapore.

Back then, I wasn’t just starting a gym—I was building a lifeline. Many of the youths who walked through our doors were lost, angry, or simply looking for someone who believed in them. Through martial arts, we gave them structure, purpose, and something to fight for beyond the cage. Their future.
Over the last 14 years, I’ve seen these young people become certified trainers, coaches, and even leaders in their own right. We've worked with schools like ITE, polytechnics, and even NUS, and we’ve been recognized by national initiatives and featured in media outlets such as:
Berita Harian – Buka gim bukan nak cari gaduh tapi terap disiplin
UrbanLens – 7 Best Rated Spectacular MMA Classes in Singapore
Wellbeing.sg – Coach Shahri Profile
We’ve also been honoured by initiatives like the Philip Yeo Initiative, which recognized our work in mentoring youth through sports.

The Struggles Behind the Scenes
Running a social enterprise means walking a fine line between community service and sustainability. I’ve always believed in keeping our programs affordable, especially for those who need it most. But the reality is, I still struggle financially and mentally to keep the gym running.
Behind the smiles and success stories are days where I’ve had to juggle multiple part-time jobs. I currently work as a delivery rider to help cover rent and keep our programs alive. There are times I’ve questioned whether I could keep going, but every time a youth tells me the gym changed their life, I remember why I started.

Vision 2030: Building a Community, Not Just a Gym
Looking ahead to 2030, my vision is clear.
Expand our outreach to more neighborhoods and schools, especially those underserved.
Open more affordable training spaces that don’t just teach fighting, but build discipline, resilience, and brotherhood.
Train more youth to become certified coaches so they can give back and inspire the next generation.
I want to build more than a gym. I want to build a safe haven for anyone who needs one.
But I can’t do it alone.
If you're reading this and believe in empowering our youth, I invite you to support in any way you can, whether by spreading the word, offering sponsorship, or simply showing up.

Thank You for Being Part of the Fight
To every student, supporter, and friend who’s walked this journey with me, thank you. Your belief fuels this mission. The fight isn't just in the ring. It's in our hearts, our communities, and our future.
Together, let's keep fighting for something bigger.
